77-year-old Man Faces Raps for Collecting SS Benefits while Jailed

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Federal prosecutors had indicted a 77-year-old man for allegedly collecting Social Security benefits while serving a prison sentence, reports said.

Federal prosecutors filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court a two-count indictment pressing charges against Dale Eugene Jenkins, a Berrien County man whose prison sentence is set to expire Monday, May 14.

In the indictment, Jenkins was allegedto have collected at least $13,680 of public money that he knew he was not entitled to. Jenkins was believed to have collected the said amount for two years while he was in prison, from July 2008 to July 2011.

He was given a maximum four-year jail sentence in the Michigan Department of Corrections for felonious assaultcharges in Berrien County. He was charged in May 2008 and was sentenced in July of that year.

Currently in the Woodland Center Correctional Facility in Whitmore Lake, Jenkins is set to face federal charges anew upon his release.
