SOCIAL SECURITY: Actor to Spend 3 Months in Jail for Selling Social Security Numbers
January 15, 2010
New York - A federal judge has ordered an actor from the popular television drama “One Tree Hill” to spend three months in prison after admitting to sell more than a dozen of Social Security numbers.
In a court ruling, Antwon Tanner will also serve five months in home detention after his release.
Tanner, who plays the role of a high school basketball star-turned-coach in a popular drama series, pleaded guilty of selling more than a dozen of Social Security numbers for $10,000 during an entrapment operation.
The actor has previously apologized to his fans and described the incident as an embarrassment to his family.
During a court hearing, Tanner’s lawyer said the actor lost a $1 million house to foreclosure which had forced him to deal with stolen Social Security numbers.
