Facebook Rolls Out Social Security ID Presentations to Verify Celebs’ Accounts

February 17, 2012

Facebook is adapting Google+’s and Twitter’s process of verifying the accounts of famous figures but includes formally showing a Social Security card, reports said.

Other than Social Security cards, the other accepted documents include passports, birth certificates, and driver’s licenses.

Facebook officials also dispel thoughts of such personal information being stored indefinitely in the social networking site’s servers, saying that the social media giant would still permanently delete the I.D. forms after verification and this should not trouble celebrities regarding their personal security, reports further stated.

The said move is justified as a way of preventing identity theft and fraud, acts which have become rampant in social networking sites.
