New Office Hours for Local SSA Offices Begin

November 20, 2012

According to reports, Social Security Administration (SSA) field offices nationwide have been closing 30 minutes earlier since yesterday, November 19, 2012. From the usual 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. office hours, now SSA offices close at 3 p.m.

Additionally, on November 23, 2012, or the day after Thanksgiving, offices will be closed to the public so that office employees can focus on reducing their backlogged workloads. Furthermore, in January 2, 2013, SSA office will be closed to the public during Wednesdays at noon time.

The said move is just one of the SSA’s means to cut costs due to the significant decrease of funds from the U.S. Congress.

Meanwhile, areas badly hit by Hurricane Sandy such as New Jersey, New York City, and Long Island, N.Y. will be delaying the implementation of the new office hours.
