President Obama Pledges to Fight for Social Security, Medicare

September 24, 2012

Woodbridge, Va. – President Barack Obama told seniors that he will defend health and retirement benefits for present and future seniors, saying that Social Security and Medicare programs are not “handouts,” reports said.

In a video message to the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), Obama mentioned that both programs “are not handouts. You paid into these programs your whole life. You earned them.”

He also said that the allegations of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan regarding the repackaging of the current Medicare program would likely hurt future seniors.

He mentioned that such discussion during the presidential campaign “hasn’t been completely on the level.”

The President was answering queries from the members of the AARP who were attending a “Life(at)50+” conference in New Orleans.
