SSA Aims 100% Paperless Payments Starting March 2013

Woodlawn, Md. – Starting March 1, 2013, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will no longer issue paper checks to Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) beneficiaries, reports stated.

Agency officials have said that electronic payments can save taxpayers’ money by $1 billion in 10 years.

SSA officials have added that since the partial implementation of paperless transaction on May 1, 2011, about 90 percent of all Social Security beneficiaries are receiving their payments either through direct deposit to a bank or through Direct Express Debit MasterCard.

The remaining 10 percent will be required to adhere to SSA’s requirement regarding paperless transaction, reports added.

The officials of the US Treasury have said that beneficiaries of Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Veterans Affairs, Railroad Retirement Board, and Office of Personal Management will also receive their payments through paperless transaction.
