SOCIAL SECURITY LAW: SSA Reports Three Million Disabled Americans Apply for Social Security Benefits Annually
March 11, 2010
Washington - The Social Security Administration (SSA) said that more than 3 million individuals apply for federal claims each year that allows beneficiaries to pay the rising costs of health care.
With the increasing number of applicants seeking disability benefits, SSA Michael Astrue said the agency has recently created websites that provide health care information to disabled Americans.
Astrue said the information about diseases such as breast cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, and rheumatoid arthritis can be found in the new websites.
The information on these websites also includes the treatments, symptoms, ongoing studies, and local resources about the common diseases that affect millions of Americans every year.
“One of the advantages of our fully electronic system is that our notices can provide applicants with valuable information provided by Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that might help them make good choices faster,” Commissioner Astrue said in a statement.
The website links for disabled individuals are available at www.socialsecurity.gov/applyfordisability.
