SSN of Thousands of Utah Residents Hacked

April 11, 2012

Salt Lake City, Utah – Online hackers have stolen personal information, including Social Security number (SSN), of at least 900,000 people, reports said.

State health officials have said Monday that the pieces of personal information stolen also included Medicaid coverage, names, and addresses.

Officials have alerted individuals whose SSN was compromised to monitor their credit ratings and bank accounts to avoid becoming victims of fraud.

Authorities have added that children victims of the hack are a problematic case since they do not have credit report, thus making it more difficult to monitor possible acts of identity theft.

The hacking was done from a new server of the state’s health department, reports added.
