Social Security Benefits Theft to Serve 6 Months in Prison

March 21, 2012

A man who admittedly stole from his two minor children’s Social Security benefits was sentenced to six months in federal prison after his guilty plea, reports said.

Aside from the prison sentence, Michael Wayne Jobe was also ordered to repay the Social Security Administration (SSA) $20,298.

U.S. District Court Judge Rodney Gilstrap presided over the sentencing hearing which was held Tuesday.

According to court documents, Jobe stole Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits from his two children starting in April 2006.

He continued to do so through August 2007, December 2009, and February 2011 in Upshur County, Texas.

Aside from restitution payments, he will also pay the federal government a $100 special assessment. He will also receive credit for the 181 days he has already served from Sept. 21, 2011, through March 20.

After his incarceration, he will be subjected to a three-year supervised release as part of the plea-bargain agreement.
