Social Security Fund for Disabled to Run Out by 2016

April 23, 2012

Social Security Administration trustees have said that the agency will exhaust its fund for disabled Americans two years sooner than expected, reports stated.

According to trustees, the Social Security program is expected to exhaust its trust fund for disability benefits in 2016.

In 2011, SSA officials have predicted that the trust fund will be exhausted on 2018, but recently, trustees have said that the fund may run out in 2016 unless Congress makes its move.

Democrat and Republican representatives have not yet reached an agreement as to how to address the Social Security trust fund, reports added.

Reports said that fiscal stress caused by the weak economy is the main reason for the trust fund depletion.
