Obama Hints SS Payment Delays; Recession Looms as Debt Ceiling Still Unclear

January 16, 2013

Washington – Social Security checks could be delayed and the nation might face another impending recession if the Republicans would still bar plans to raise government borrowing limits, President Barack Obama warned.

Obama issued the warning as the deadline for the raising of the country’s debt ceiling looms.

These past few days, Republican members of the Congress have opposed the Democrats’ push to raise the nation’s debt ceiling, which now stands at $16.4 trillion.

In his press conference, the President stressed his concerns about the problem on debt ceiling.

“If congressional Republicans refuse to pay American’s bills on time, Social Security and veterans’ benefits will be delayed. We might not be able to pay out troops,” Obama said.
